Just 3 km from La Villa Magnifica lies one of Puglia’s most magical coastal experiences: Torre Guaceto. This protected nature reserve combines wild beaches, Mediterranean landscapes, and a deep commitment to conservation. Whether it’s a hot summer day or not quite beach weather, this is the perfect moment to explore Torre Guaceto — a place where the sea, nature and history all come together.

A Journey That Starts with a Little Train

We began our visit at Parcheggio Nord, where a small tourist train took us into the heart of the reserve. After a stop at the sea turtle rescue centre and a refreshing dip in the clear blue water, the iconic watchtower caught our eye. Despite our initial plan to relax, curiosity won us over. We set off on foot — and the walk became one of our favorite memories.

From La Villa Magnifica, you can even see the watchtower peeking above the trees in the distance.

A coastal hike full of surprises

We followed the shoreline, walking from bay to bay — each one more stunning than the last. In some cases there was no one else in sight. The water was crystal-clear, the cliffs rugged, and the scent of wild herbs filled the air. We passed through tall grasses, rustling reeds and flowering shrubs, spotting birds along the way. The round-trip hike took about 40 minutes each way, and the paths were easy to follow and mostly flat.

Can you see the tower in the distance?

Prefer land over Sand?

If you’d rather skip the walk along the beach, inland trails are a great alternative. These well-marked routes lead you through toward the tower. Perfect for a quiet hike, a gentle bike ride, or even a horseback tour, which can be booked locally.

Looking for something different? Join a guided night walk. These evening excursions, led by local guides, offer an unforgettable view of the reserve under the stars where every sound and shadow feels like part of a secret world.

The turtles of Torre Guaceto

One of the reserve’s treasures is the Caretta caretta sea turtle. Torre Guaceto is a protected nesting ground, and the rescue centre works hard to care for injured turtles and release them back into the wild. It’s a moving and educational stop, especially for children.
